Children’s author Marilyn Wassmann’s new book chronicles an unlikely friendship

The story of the relationship between an opossum and a cat

PEMBERTON, NEW JERSEY, USA, April 27, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ — Cookstown, NJ—Unlikely friendships are a joy in life. Connecting with another being so different from you is a blessing that cannot be denied. This kind of friendship is superbly described in author Marilyn Wassmann’s children’s book, The Opossum and the Cat.

A former art cataloguer, Marilyn B. Wassmann has an impressive background. During her lifetime, she earned two degrees in art history, another in library science, and one in studio art. Her fulfilling career at the Library of Congress came to an end when she retired in 2011, but that only gave her more time to pursue other interests. Part of the Greenbelt Writers Group, she illustrated and contributed to their published anthologies. A year before her retirement, she dipped her toes into writing a children’s book and also writes poems. With her husband Paul and several pets, she lives in Hyattsville, Maryland.

The titular opossum and the cat form a unique and surprising friendship that began when the cat ends up in labor in the opossum hole. When she and her five newborn kittens have nowhere to go, the opossum offers her hole for shelter. Little did he know how much these mischievous, playful kittens would disrupt his way of life. However, things go awry when one day all but one of the kittens fall into the pond. Seeking his help to save the four, the remaining kitten begged him to save the others. At the risk of his life and without worrying about the pain, the opossum lends his tail to bring them back to earth.

A tale showcasing youthful playfulness and the enduring power of friendship and kindness, The Opossum and the Cat will surely help teach children and children at heart the value of friendship. Get a copy today!
