Spain’s Ambassador to India, Jose Maria Ridao Dominguez, who was there, said he was delighted with the decision to make the European country the hub nation for the 46th edition of the book fair in 2023.

“It is with great pride that Spain has been chosen as the featured country for the 46th edition of the Calcutta International Book Fair. This will promote people-to-people contacts and facilitate the strengthening of cultural ties between India and Spain,” he said.

Chatterjee said around 16.5 lakh people visited the fair’s 600 book stalls.

“People were deprived of living at the book fair for about two years. After two postponements, we were finally able to organize it in the spring. The book fair will be bigger next year,” Guild President Sudhangsu Dey said.

Chatterjee said the next edition will likely be held in January 2023 but dates are yet to be set.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the Minister of State for Cultural Affairs of Bangladesh, KM Khalid, were present at the inaugural ceremony of the 45th Kolkata International Book Fair, 2022 on February 28.
